KARACHI, July 25: Pakistan’s leading cueist Saleh Muhammad continued his best performance on the second day of the 21st Asian snooker championship in Bangkok, as he downed Hong Kong’s Cheung Chung Hin 4-2.

According to a message Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) received on Monday, former world and Asian champion Muhammad Yousuf in stark contrast received 0-4 thrashing at the hands of Issara Kachaiwong of Thailand.

Mercurial Saleh, seeded third in the championship, carved out a splendid clearance break of 115 following his break of 110 on the opening day. Drawn in Pool ‘C’ Saleh demonstrated another brilliant potting show later in the evening match crushing Zaw Tun of Myanmar 4-0 to record a 72-3, 63-33, 65-35, 80-16 win, his third.

Earlier, he made a perfect start taking the opening frame laced with a break of 71 and added the second 65-49. Seung Chung grabbed the third by a close margin of 64-54. But Saleh bounced back to take a 3-1 lead winning the fourth frame which was spiced with a break of 50. The Thai did manage to pocket the fifth frame but had no answer to Saleh who sealed the fate of the match with a spectacular clearance break of 115. On the other hand, Muhammad Yousuf despite being the most experienced player on the Asian circuit performed below par against Issara Kachiawang going down 15-65, 30-71, 29-75, 8-82. The Thai made a break of 51 in the third frame.—APP
