SHEIKHUPURA: Seven members of a family were killed when roof of their house caved in following heavy rain in Fazal Colony near Kot Abdul Maalik in the early hours of Wednesday.

The ill-fated couple and their five children lived in a portion of a double-storey house that was apparently in a dilapidated condition. They were sleeping when the incident happened.

A neighbour said the family could not get the house repaired owing to financial constrains, and its roof collapsed hours after heavy rain hit the area on Tuesday.

Their bodies were recovered by neighbours, volunteers and rescuers.

The deceased were identified as Kamran (40), his wife Kausar (35), sons Abdullah and Baitullah, and daughters Bisma, Muqaddas and Alisha. The children’s ages were between five and 15 years.

The Rescue 1122 officials said the bodies had been shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem examination and would be handed over to the relatives of the deceased.

In Faisalabad district a young couple and their minor son received serious injuries when their roof collapsed.

A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said the dilapidated house of Ashraf, in Chak 215-RB Nethari, collapsed due to rain. As a result, Ashraf (35), his wife Humera (32) and son Ghaus Raza (3) got buried under the debris.

The Rescue 1122 personnel brought them out of the debris and moved them to hospital where they were said to be in a serious condition.
