QUETTA: The Educational Employees Action Committee on Tuesday evening called off their protest after Balochistan ministers assured the protesting teachers that the provincial government would resolve their issues.

After the government’s assurance, the committee ended the week-long sit-in at the Edhi Chowk and removed their protest camp and hurdles from the main road connecting Quetta with other areas.

EEAC representative Habibur Rehman Mardanzai said: “We were compelled to start protest because despite meeting with government representatives, including the chief minister, we didn’t receive any notification on our basic demands.”

The protesting employees had earlier given a charter of demands to the government seeking grant of educational allowance, abolition of Compulsory Education Act and increase in quota for promotions among other demands.

Balochistan Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Saleem Ahmed Khosa, Minister for Livestock Mitha Khan Kakar, Adviser to Chief Minister on Education Mohammad Khan Lehri, and ANP’s parliamentary leader Asghar Khan Achakzai visited the protest camp of teachers.
