FAISALABAD, July 25: An intelligence agency team raided the house of prayer leader Qari Ataullah and arrested him for leading the funeral prayers (in absentia) of alleged suicide bomber Shahzad Tanvir on Sunday night.

Sources said the agency personnel, along with police, besieged Chak 477 GB in Samundri and arrested Ataullah. He was shifted to Samundri City police station and was questioned about the funeral prayers.

The team also searched the house of Tahir Pervaiz, the uncle of Shahzad, and took some of his belongings into custody. They questioned him about Shahzad’s friends and his connection with the people in Pakistan. The team also arrested Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Tayyab, activists of a banned militant organization. They were also shifted to the Samundri City police station.

Meanwhile, another team seized the record of journal Ashaatul Maaraf from Samundri and registered a case against its management, said to be leadership of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan under sections 11-W of the Anti-Terrorist Act, 16 MPO and 295-A of the PPC.exceeds: The dryport customs has collected Rs1,588.950 million revenue during the last financial year ending on June 30, 2005 which is Rs734.486 million more than that of 2003-2004.

Customs Collector Ikramullah Ghauri told the press here on Monday that the department collected Rs855.297 million during the last financial year on account of import duty, warehouse charges, licence fee and auction of confiscated goods whereas the revenue during the year 2003-2004 was Rs368.500 million.

He said during the period under review, the customs received a sum of Rs628.129 million under the sales tax head against Rs375.232 collected during the preceding year 2003-2004.

The customs department realized a sum of Rs104.117 million as income tax and import development surcharge whereas the revenue collected from this head during 2003-2004 stood at Rs107.351 million, he said. Mr Ghauri said Rs1.407 million were collected as central excise duty during 2004-2005 against Rs3.381 million received during the preceding year 2003-2004.
