RAHIM YAR KHAN: The Department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) of the Shaikh Zayed Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) on Friday conducted the first successful surgery of larynx (Layngectomy).

According to a press release of the SZMCH, patient Muhammad Khan visited the Carcinoma Larynx Department a few weeks ago. After detailed assessment, the team under the supervision of Prof Dr Faheem in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and Department of Anesthesia decided to conduct surgery of larynx a few days ago.

After the successful surgery, says the press release, the patient is recovering and his voice is returning.

Dr Faheem said the patient was improving and in the long term, his prognosis could be improved through Radiotherapy and Speech Therapy.

He said the surgery initiated at the hospital would benefit the patients in the days ahead.

SZMCH Principal Prof Dr Zafar H. Tanveer congratulated Prof Dr Faheem and his team for conducting the successful operation.
