CAIRO, July 24: An Egyptian man was critically wounded when a bomb he was carrying accidentally exploded in Cairo on Sunday, police said, the day after a string of devastating bombings in the resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Sami Gamal Hegazi, 33, was injured when he dropped the bag containing the home-made bomb in the southwestern Cairo neighbourhood of Kerdasa, a police official said.

ARRESTS: Egyptian police scoured for clues on Sunday and struggled to identify dozens of the 88 people killed in three bomb blasts that rocked this Red Sea resort, sending foreign tourists scrambling to catch flights home.

More than 70 people have been detained in Sharm el-Sheik and elsewhere on the Sinai Peninsula for questioning over early Saturday’s bombings.—Agencies
