HYDERABAD, July 24: The People’s Party Parliamentarian and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal have almost finalized seat adjustments for two talukas –- the City and Latifabad — in newly-created Hyderabad district to face the Haqparast Group of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.
The MMA will contest polls with the name of Ittehad-i-Millat Group while the PPP-backed candidates will be fielded on the platform of Awam Dost Panel.
A few seats may be given to candidates of the Sunni Tehrik, Tehrik-i-Insaf and the PML-N.
The seat adjustments followed hectic deliberations between local leadership of the PPP and the MMA, respectively, headed by Zahid Bhurgari and MPA Rehman Rajput.
Local leaders of the two sides also took part in the deliberations. Adjustment of a few seats will be decided in the light of strength of voters in union council in question.
For seats of councillors in 13-member UC, decisions are yet to be taken.
The seats are either to be distributed equally or on the basis of electoral strength of the contesting groups.
Initial reports indicated that in the Taluka City the two sides have decided to field the IMG-backed panel on eight seats directly, one seat would be directly contested by the ADP-backed candidate against the HPG-supported candidates.
There are eleven seats which will be jointly contested by the IMG and ADP candidates because of mixed population of voters.
In Latifabad taluka, there are seven seats where the IMG-backed candidates would field their candidates and on three seats ADP’s candidates would contest against the HPG and seven seats would be jointly contested by the IMG and ADP.
As far as the Qasimabad taluka is concerned, ADP candidates would be there to face the opponents, either from political groups or independents because the ADP had obtained majority in four UCs taluka.
