KARACHI, July 24: Seven people died in various traffic accidents in the metropolis on Sunday. Three youths died in a road traffic accident late Sunday night and six others were injured. The dead in their early twenties or late teens were identified as Danish, Salman and Shakeel.

Police said a Suparco van carrying five staff members tried to save the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, on which four people were riding.

The motorcycle skidded and all four fell to the ground while the van overturned and fell on the youths. Three of the youth on the motorbike died on the spot while the fourth, Mohammad Asif, as injured.

All five persons in the van suffered injuries with one of them being serious, the police said. They were identified as Ishtiaque, Zafar Iqbal, Sarfaraz, Mohammad Ramzan and Muthkar (driver). They were shifted to a private hospital.

In Saudabad, an unknown vehicle hit a motorcycle and sped away. Two men on the motorbike suffered serious injuries and were shifted to hospital where one of them, identified as Sanam Ali, 20, was pronounced dead on arrival.

His friend Zulfiqar was admitted to hospital.

In the same police limits, a minibus of route P-1 hit a five-year-old boy Hammad near Urdu Chowk. The boy died on the spot. People gathered and pelted the minibus with stones.

Police reached the spot and controlled the situation. They impounded the vehicle while its driver fled the scene.

The body of the boy was first shifted to hospital for autopsy and was later handed over to his family.

In another accident, a motorcyclist was hit by a car on Allama Rasheed Turabi Road.

The motorcyclist, identified later as Mohammad Abid, 50, died on the spot. Police impounded the car and arrested its driver Mohammad Rizwan.

A 19-year-old girl, Nida Nazeer, died in a hit-and-run accident on the M.A. Jinnah Road near Dilpasand Sweet shop, while crossing the road late Saturday night. Her body was later handed over to her family.
