ISLAMABAD: The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (Peira) has sealed three unregistered schools in the capital.

The regulatory body said the operation would continue against schools which were being operated without registration.

With the help of the Islamabad administration and police, Peira sealed Headstart (PWD branch) and Discovery School System in Sohan Garden on Friday. Air Foundation School System located along Islamabad Highway was sealed a few days ago.

“Today, we sealed Headstart and Discovery School as despite our repeated requests the operators did not apply for registration,” said Acting Chairman Peira Imtiaz Qureshi.

He said before sealing, the operators of the schools were issued notices but they did not comply.

Mr Qureshi said Peira Act empowered the authority to seal illegal schools.

“We have started an operation against such schools and in the next few days we will seal more such schools,” he said.

Asked about the total number of illegal schools, he said Peira had data of total 1,600 schools in Islamabad. Of them, 1,200 have registration while cases of 400 are in progress.

There are around 100 other schools which never even applied for registration. “Now we are taking action against such schools,” he said.
