Pakistan pin hopes on Black Caps to make semis

LONDON: Australia are still the only team to have secured their World Cup semi-final qualification and five teams are still fighting out for the three remaining spots.
England’s win over India has made the semi-final qualification process fairly straightforward as of Monday. India, currently in second place, and third-placed New Zealand are locked on 11 points each, with the Indians having an extra game up their sleeve. In fourth spot is England with 10 points and one game to go. Below them are Pakistan on nine points and Bangladesh on seven.
India have two games to go — against Bangladesh on Tuesday and another one against Sri Lanka. The Black Caps’ last game is against hosts England while Pakistan’s final match of the league phase is against Bangladesh.
If England defeat New Zealand on Wednesday, the Englishmen will move up to 12 points and provided the Black Caps don’t lose too badly, their net run rate (0.572) won’t be adversely affected. In that scenario, New Zealand will still be on 11 points but with a net run rate that should see them through along with the hosts.
That’s because even if Pakistan defeat Bangladesh in their final league game, their net run rate (-0.792) is unlikely to surge past that of New Zealand, or India for that matter if they end up losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and also remain on 11 points.
If New Zealand defeat England, Pakistan can then make it to the semi-finals provided they beat Bangladesh.

Huge thrashing by West Indies killing our NRR will haunt us till next world cup.
With return of Jason Roy, English team is reset to 300+ and will easily beat NZ.
Semi Finals: Australia vs NZ (Aussies win), India vs England (too close to call)
Pakistan will find it hard to beat BD, but if they do, they will end WC campaign on positive note.

While I love a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person, Pakistan missed the semis because they lost 3 games and because they have a poor NRR compared to NZ by West Indies thrashing.
And this conspiracy theory is an insult to magnificent performance displayed by England.

If NZ vs England match is rained off, NZ 12 points will take them to semi finals. England will have 11 points and by virtue of better NRR will qualify for semi finals.
If Pakistan vs BD match is rained off, Pakistan ends up with 10 points, less than NZ and equal to England's 10 in case NZ beats England. In this case too England goes through because of better NRR.
To cut a long story short, rain or no rain, Pakistan is practically out of this race.

Increasingly looking like and Australia vs England/India final (toss will be crucial in India vs England SF and the final. Whoever bats first will win that game. In the league game vs England, fielding first the same Indian spinners looked absolutely toothless. They took wickets when the damage had already been done)

Sloppy batting,bowling/fielding performances during earlier games including losing the very 1st game! (to a weaker West Indies team and being shot out for a WC low total of 105!
This world cup proved that you have to take every single game seriously especially due to rain factor as well.
