ISLAMABAD, July 22: Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has sent a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Chaudhry, asking him to take notice of denial of passport to the party chief and former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by the government, a source told Dawn here on Friday. The source said the party had sent a copy of the letter written by Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar, the son-in-law of Mr Sharif, to the Pakistani consul general in Jeddah on July 11, to the chief justice of Pakistan with the hope that he would take notice of the violation of fundamental rights of a citizen.

Mr Safdar had sent this letter to the consul general and threatened him with taking legal steps if the passport was not issued.

In his letter, a copy of which was provided to Dawn by the PML-N media centre, Mr Safdar states: “It is indeed regrettable that I have visited the consulate repeatedly without success for the renewal of the passport of a person, who has been twice elected as the prime minister of Pakistan.”

Mr Safdar also narrated the details of the visits so far undertaken to the Pakistani consulate in Jeddah after submitting the application for renewal of the passports of Mr Sharif and Kulsoom Nawaz on July 2.
