SIALKOT, July 22: A candidate staged a protest demonstration here against the alleged political harassment and pressure by National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Husain. Advocate Javed Iqbal, a candidate for the office of Nazim of Kachhi Maand union council in Bajwat and his supporters gathered outside district courts holding placards and raised slogans against the speaker.

He told reporters that the speaker was harassing him and his supporters to withdraw from the election. He claimed that the speaker threatened him with dire consequences if he did not withdraw his candidature.

He urged President Gen Parvez Musharraf and the Chief Election Commissioner to take notice of the political involvement of the ruling party politicians in the forthcoming LB election.

However, the speaker, when contacted, denied the allegations.

POLLING: Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have declared 170 of 1,315 polling stations in the district as sensitive for the August 18 local bodies polls, advising the government to make extraordinary measures to avert any untoward.

The Sialkot DPO said on Friday police had chalked out a foolproof security plan for holding election.

He said the district had been divided into 26 sectors and 95 sub-sectors for holding election.

MURDER: One Rashid Iqbal allegedly stabbed to death his stepmother Shabana over a domestic dispute in Kotli Noshera, Satrah, on Friday.

In another incident, Javed allegedly shot dead his father Abdul Ghani over a property dispute in Gamrala village, Zafarwal, on Friday.

Police concerned have registered cases, with no arrest.

CASE REGISTERED: The Hajipura police have registered a case on the orders of Lahore High Court against its SHO Inspector Rana Nadeem Tariq and other police officials for illegally raiding the house of Irshad Bibi and beating her and her family members.

The woman submitted before the court that the police raided her house to arrest her son Ali for his alleged involvement in a murder case. When she told police that Ali was not at home, they beat her and her family members.
