MIRAMSHAH: The district administration on Monday lifted curfew in North Waziristan after nine days.

Officials said the decision was taken in a meeting attended by officials of the district administration, senior military officers and elders of the area.

Curfew was imposed on June 9 in areas along Miramshah and Datakhel road, Macha Madakhel and Kharqamar check post following an attack on security forces by an improvised explosive device ((IED) in Doga Macha Madakhel two days ago.

A contingent of the army’s Quick Response Force was patrolling the area when the IED struck a vehicle. A major, a lieutenant colonel and a soldier were martyred while four others were injured.

Witnesses said people came out of their houses and rushed to markets to purchase essentials after the curfew was lifted.

Meanwhile, parliamentary leader of the ANP in the KP Assembly Sardar Hussain Babak submitted a calling attention notice to the assembly secretariat on Monday to hold a debate on the post-curfew situation in North Waziristan.

Mr Babak asked the government to send edible items to the curfew-hit areas.
