LAHORE, July 21: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said medical superintendents of government hospitals should undertake daily inspections for improvement in functional and administrative affairs as well as ensuring cleanliness in their respective hospitals. Presiding over a meeting of the Postgraduate Medical Institute/Lahore General Hospital’s board of management here on Thursday, the chief minister said medical superintendents must ensure cleanliness, proper maintenance of equipment and polite attitude of medical staff with patients and their attendants.

He also reviewed development projects at the LGH, including completion of emergency block, postgraduate block and installation of MRI.

It is learnt that the CM said he would himself inaugurate the emergency block and functioning of MRI.

Considering the fact that the hospital’s drainage system had a problem in quick disposal of rainwater, he asked PGMI/LGH principal Prof Sajjad Husain to contact Wasa and get the drainage system in order.

The chief minister said the medical superintendents serving in teaching hospitals should get development projects completed in time. He said the boards of management of autonomous teaching hospitals would be empowered to effectively implement the measures taken for extending better healthcare to citizens. He said relevant rules in this regard would also be amended for enabling board members to play a more active role.

He said a strategy had been evolved to improve administrative affairs of government hospitals so that people could benefit from the reforms introduced by the government in the health sector. He said implementation of the Punjab Health Sector Reforms Programme had been started, and the funds allocated for this purpose provided to all districts.

Reiterating that the provision of modern medical facilities was the top most priority of the government, he directed that the programme for supply of free medicines and treatment facilities to patients in emergency wards should be implemented effectively. He said the sewerage and sanitation system of hospitals should be improved and suitable seating arrangements be made for the patients and their attendants.

Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed, chief secretary Kamran Rasool, planning and development department chairman Sibtain Fazal-i-Haleem, principal secretary finance Salman Siddique, health secretary Sohail Ahmad and PGMI/LGH board of management members attended the meeting.

MEETING: MNA from Faisalabad Rajab Ali Baloch, MPA Shahid Khalil Noor and Tandlianwala’s former tehsil nazim Ali Gohar Baloch met Pervaiz Elahi at the Chief Minister’s House.

The delegation members discussed matters regarding development projects and organizational matters of the Muslim League.

During the meeting, the CM gave approval for remodelling of Saim Nullah, Mamoon Kanjan, to help protect environment and increase agriculture production.

Jhang PML president Mohammad Yaqoob, Jhelum’s former district nazim Farrukh Altaf and others also called on the chief minister.
