ISLAMABAD, July 21: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Thursday called a meeting of the supreme council of the alliance in Islamabad on July 27 to discuss ongoing crackdown on ‘madressas and religious organizations’. According to a spokesman for the MMA, the meeting will be held at the residence of Mr Ahmed to discuss prevailing political situation in the country, with particular reference to ongoing crackdown against ‘religious groups and madressas’ after 7/7 bomb blasts in London.

The MMA leaders would also discuss the strategy for the forthcoming local body elections, the spokesman said.

He said that the meeting would review the situation in Karachi where, he alleged, the government had given a free hand to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement ‘to carry out terrorist acts’.

Besides, he said, military operation in the tribal areas, Hasba bill and economic situation of the country would also be discussed by the MMA leaders in the meeting.
