KARACHI, July 19: Police raided the offices of three weeklies and a daily on Tuesday and arrested two journalists for publishing hate literature. Police had earlier raided the office of Zarb-i-Islam and arrested its editor and assistant editor. Police had also picked up newspaper hawkers from various localities for selling hate literature. On Tuesday morning, police raided the office of Urdu weekly Friday Special, a subsidiary of daily Jasarat, and asked its assistant editor Abdul Latif Abu Shamil to hand over copies of the weekly. Later, he was taken to the Mithadar police station and detained.

A police official said the action had been taken in compliance with directives of higher authorities.

In a raid on the office of weekly Wujood on Elander Road, police picked up its editor Mohammad Tahir and lodged him at the Artillery Maidan police station.

Police claimed that the weeklies contained articles which could incite sentiments of people against other religions and cultures. City police chief Tariq Jamil said police had also raided the office weekly Ghazi off Tipu Sultan Road and daily Ummat near the National Hockey Stadium. No arrest was made.
