KARACHI, July 19: The Adviser to Chief Minister for Excise and Taxation, M.A. Jalil, has stopped the purchase of luxury cars for the department for which funds had been allocated in the budget. He took the decision after it came to his knowledge that funds had been kept in the budget for purchase of a number of lavish cars and jeeps for the department.

He told the department officials that there was no necessity for purchase and use of such expensive vehicles in the department and instead only such vehicles should be procured which may fulfil the department’s operational requirements and help improve its performance.

M.A. Jalil said that with the implementation of this decision, the department could procure five additional Pothohar Jeeps and 60 motorcycles.

He said with the availability of additional transport, the staff could perform its duties with better efficiency.

Appreciating the decision, the excise and taxation department officials said instead of coming to office on foot or in buses, the provision of better transport facilities would help them to perform their duties more diligently and which, in turn, would help in increased revenue contribution to government exchequer. —APP
