DADU, July 18: The Manchhar Lake is receiving flood water from the Indus River through Danistar Canal and Aral Wah. Irrigation officials said the water level was increasing in the lake and fresh water had also decreased the salinity ratio. They said due to medium flood in the Indus River, Mahi Utho police station and twelve villages in the kutcha area of the Sehwan taluka including Mohi Otho, Naon Wahan, Noor Bughio, Duri Dero and Jalbani were inundated.
PROTEST: A number of farmers of Pir Gunio and Kharoro water channels staged a demonstration on the Indus Highway on Monday to protest against shortage of irrigation water.
Leaders of the Abadgar Association, Pir Niaz and Hakeem Jamali, led the protesters.
They alleged that officials of the irrigation department were selling water of Pir Gunio and Kharoro minors to influential landlords at the head of Johi branch. As a result, hundreds of farmers had not cultivated their lands during the current season in the Johi taluka.
They appealed to the provincial secretary irrigation Ashfaq Memon to provide them complete share of water and take action against officials of the irrigation department.
