GUJRANWALA, July 18: Various non-government organizations have become active in support of local body candidates backed by the ruling PML, it is learnt here on Monday. Reports said that various NGOs, including the Citizen Action Committee and Aaurat Foundation, were organizing seminars in the city, pursuing the people to support the ruling party candidates in the upcoming local body election.

These NGOs were being accused of receiving financial support from the government and other donors for promotion of official agenda by playing an active role in the formation of district government.

The workers of various political and religious parties allege that the government is trying to rig the local body polls by using these NGOs in support of its ‘favourite’ candidates.

SUICIDE: A father of six committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling fan at Garjakh on Monday.

Reports said that the deceased, Ashfaq, was jobless, while his wife quarrelled with him over expenditures.

Abducted: A man, who was pursuing a murder case, was kidnapped by some armed men near Mari Bhindran village, Noshehran Virkan on Monday.

Asghar Ali of Mangoki was on his way home by wagon from sessions court. As he reached near Bridge Mari Bhirdran, some 11 armed men stopped the vehicle and kidnapped him.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.
