RAWALPINDI, July 18: A passenger was taken into custody by a security agency’s officials at Islamabad airport on Sunday after he was spotted carrying “bricks” while boarding a Karachi-bound flight, a source said. Shamim Alvi was taken into custody when the scanning machine spotted three bricks wrapped in a cotton sheet in his handbag.

The check-in for Karachi-bound flight (ED-203) was in progress when the man was caught by the Airport Security Force.

The man, who belongs to Karachi, has been handed over to a security agency officials to find out the motive behind the attempt to carry bricks on a flight, the source said.

He added that the security officials were investigating whether the arrested person had any links with the recent killings in Lahore where a number of homeless people sleeping on footpaths were found dead after being hit on the head with some heavy object. In almost all incidents, a stone has been spotted near the bodies.
