KARACHI, July 17: The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) said on Sunday it had purchased 100,000 tons of sugar at $366 a ton C&F Karachi. TCP chairman Masood Alam Rizvi said the Corporation had bought the sugar from Al Khaleej Sugar Company of the United Arab Emirates.

“The company has met our specifications. It offered sugar from various origins including China, Thailand and the UAE,” he told Reuters.

“But we are not concerned about the origin till the time our specifications are met and till the time it’s not Indian, because it is not in our positive list.”

The successful bidders would have to complete the shipments of sugar at Karachi’s Port Qasim in two phases — 50,000 tons in August and 50,000 tons in September, Rizvi said.—Reuters
