SHIKARPUR: 11 people, eight of them members of two families, were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between two speeding cars near Bhayo Wah along the Garhi Yasin-Shikarpur section of the Indus Highway on Sunday. The deceased included two women and four children.

Police and hospital sources identified the deceased families as Haji Gulab, 65, his son Dilmurad, 40, Fahad Dilmurad, 11, Zeenat Haroon, 35, Anila Haroon, 8, Shakeela Haroon, 7, and Yasir Haroon, 5 -- belong to the Bahrani community. Another member of the same community who could not be identified was also among the dead. They were riding a Suzuki Mehran (BKV-302), which was on its way to Zangipur Khosa village of Jacobabad district from Larkana.

Among the occupants of the other car (AJW-424), a 40-year-old man, Nimano Samoo, was killed on the spot and six others, Papan Samano, Abdul Aziz Sundrani, Lela Samoo, Kamran Samoo, Janib Chandio and an unidentified person were injured in the accident. They were destined for Larkana and had started their journey from Shikarpur.

The injured were referred to the Sukkur and Larkana civil hospitals for treatment. Two of the injured, identified at the hospitals as Janib Chandio and Yasin, succumbed to their injuries during treatment late in the evening.
