KARACHI: A cabinet committee has suggested that the proposed Sindh Safe City Authority (SSCA) should function under the administrative control of the Sindh police.

The meeting, chaired by Information, Science and Technology (IST) Minister Taimur Talpur, discussed the proposed SSCA draft and decided that the draft by-laws would be finalised soon after due deliberations and sent to the cabinet for approval.

IST secretary Bahadur Kazi briefed the participants about the proposed draft of SSCA.

It was proposed that the authority should function under the provincial police force.

Participants of the meeting were of the view that this would allow the police to promptly take due corrective action in case of any law and order situation in the province.

The ministers agreed to the proposal and said that minutes of the committee’s session should be sent to the cabinet for approval.

The meeting also discussed the proposed rules and regulations, the composition of the governing board, laws and charter of the Safe City Authority to be constituted soon.

Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Bahadur Kazi and home secretary Abdul Kabir Kazi also attended the meeting.
