President Donald Trump has warned Chinese President Xi Jinping and all of his "many friends in China" that the country “will be hurt very badly” if they don’t agree to a trade deal.

Trump tweeted on Monday after the countries failed to reach a deal in recent talks. The Trump administration has raised tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese imports after charging that China had backtracked on commitments it made in earlier negotiations.

Trump tweeted China “had a great deal, almost completed, & you backed out!”

Trump insisted the tariffs the US has placed on Chinese goods don’t hurt American consumers, saying there is “no reason for the US Consumer to pay the Tariffs”.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow acknowledged on Sunday that US consumers and businesses pay the tariffs. “Both sides will pay,” he told Fox News.

Bullying tactics will not work this time, only bilateral dialogues will resolve any differences along with mutual respect and accepting sovereignty of other countries. Iran is not Iraq or Libya!

As we speak, hundreds of Chinese factories are on the verge of closing down, Chinese debt is rising and the Chinese economy is heading toward a collapse. Meanwhile here in the US, factories that were once closed are re-opening, economy is booming and unemployment is at historic low. The trade war between US & China may not affect the US at all or may affect it marginally but it will certainly destroy the Chinese economy and undo all the work China has done over the last few decades. Its time for the Chinese leadership to wake up and smell the coffee or face implosion.

@Dr. Salaria, Aamir Ahmad - As with everything else, you have a poor understanding of economic issues. These are not "scare tactics". The tariffs imposed by the US are already costing China $60 billion a year and if those tariffs are extended to all Chinese imports as expected, it will cost China $150 billion a year. That's more than twice of what China's spending on CPEC.

China is a massive manufacturing economy. Millions of Chinese people are employed by these industries and the Chinese companies MUST sell the products they manufacture. The US is primarily a consumer economy just like India is. The Chinese companies earn billions and billions of dollars by selling (dumping) cheap products in these countries. If the US government puts tariffs and make the Chinese products as expensive as locally produced products then the people in US will prefer US products for their superior quality. China cannot afford to lose out on the US consumer. It will be a disaster for the Chinese economy and for the Chinese government. They're the vulnerable ones in this trade war.
