Vaqas grabs 5-shot lead

KARACHI, July 16: Country’s number one amateur golfer Vaqas Ahmed took a five-stroke lead in the national trials at Arabian Sea Country Club on Saturday after a third round of two-over-par 74.

Vaqas is leading the pack of golfers with an aggregate of 226 at the penultimate round of four-trials conducted to select Pakistan team for Numera Cup Asia Pacific golf championship being held in Japan in September.

Five strokes behind the leader is second day leader Aadil Jehangir at 231 after a bad third round of 80.

Adil’s younger brother Daniyaal Jehangir is placed third, three strokes a drift at 234 while Muhammad Safdar is laying fourth at 236. He had a round of four-over 76.

Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Secretary Taimur Hasan is lying at fifth at 236, followed by Tariq Mahmood (238), Cdr. Ansar Mahmood (240) at sixth and seventh place.

Trials will conclude on Sunday with the final round.—APP
