PESHAWAR, July 15: ‘Literacy for All’ Project Director Mushtaq Jadoon said on Thursday that the target of 100 per cent literacy rate in the province would be achieved by 2015. Speaking at the conclusion of a two-day training workshop for teachers of literacy centres at the Local Government High School, he said all the literacy centres in the province were working efficiently. He said those centres had been closed where the number of students was low or teachers were not showing interest in fulfilling their responsibilities.

He said teachers at the centres were paid Rs2,000 per month for three-hour duty daily but they would be given ample opportunities of promotion on showing good results. He said those attending the centres would be provided stationery and books free of cost.

Referring to certain complaints, he warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against the teachers and supervisors found involved in charging the learners. He said corruption would not be tolerated in the project.

He said the chief minister had provided funds for the project and negligence by the officials would not be tolerated.
