CHITRAL: The mother and child week began here on Tuesday to create public awareness of health care and hygiene. Officials told a meeting here in the office of the district health officer that four activities were planned for the motherandchildweek but only one of them i.e. mass awareness of healthcare andhygiene would be carried out in all 24 union councils of Upper and Lower Chitral districts.

They said 483 lady health workers would take part in the activity with the support of the paramedical staff of the health department.

The officials said the other three activities included vaccination of children up to two years of age, provision of deworming medicine to the children aged between three and five years of age, and administration of anti-tetanus injection to pregnant women.

They said a lecture would be delivered in every village highlighting ways to prevent diseases and lead a healthy life.

KILLED: A man was killed and another suffered head injuries when a motorcycle plunged into a deep ravine on Chitral-Booni Road near Reshun village here on Tuesday. A local police official said pillion rider Muhibur Rahman of Reshun Gol village died in the accident.

He said Burhanuddin rode the motorcycle rashly and therefore, it went out of his control.

The official said the rider, who belonged to the same village, suffered serious head injuries, so he was shifted to a Peshawar hospital.

MUSIC GALA: A music gala was held in Booni, the headquarters of Upper Chitral district, to celebrate the creation of the new district. Folk singers, dancers and players of the local musical instruments from across Upper Chitral district performed in the event.
