PESHAWAR, July 14: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan, appreciating the activities being carried out by the Abaseen Foundation for the relief of flood affected people, has appealed to other welfare bodies and philanthropists to come forward for the rehabilitation of the displaced people. He was addressing a ceremony arranged for the distribution of relief goods among flood-affected people at the Nahaqi rural health centre on Thursday.

The minister distributed relief goods, including, edibles and other essential items, among 204 affected families of the area.

Referring to the contribution of the Abaseen Foundation, the minister said that in fact it was cooperation with the government, as the government alone could not overcome the situation.

He said that the provincial government by taking timely steps had helped minimize the losses of floods. He also appreciated the governments of Sindh and Punjab for their cooperation.

Mr Khan said that more drugs would be supplied to flood-hit areas to avoid outbreak of epidemic diseases there.

Chief Executive of the Abaseen Foundation, Dr Mukhtar Zaman, highlighting the relief activities of the organization, said that 13 mobile camps of the foundation had vaccinated 3,364 people in the affected areas of the districts of Peshawar and Charsadda and RHC Nahaqi was providing vaccination facilities to more than 300 people every day.

He elaborated that the foundation had distributed water purification medicines and water containers, donated by Unicef, among 450 affected families of the area. Dr Zaman said that 1,000 animals had been vaccinated during a camp arranged by the foundation in Jala Bela, and food for pets of 600 families was also provided.
