KARACHI: KFHA affairs

Published July 15, 2005

KARACHI, Jul. 14: The Sindh Trawler Owners Fishermen Association (STOFA) has called for introducing one-window operation in the channel of Karachi Fish Harbour. The present system, the association claimed, is a cumbersome exercise for fishermen who face lot problems in getting clearance for fishing trips. Presently, there are four agencies whose clearance is mandatory for fishing trips. The agencies are: Pakistan Custom, Coast Guard, MSA and KPT.

The TOFA said since these agencies are separately located and had been working independently, fishermen have to run from pillar to post to clear their documents because of complicated process.

The STOFA also urged that the meeting of Board of Directors of Fishermen Cooperative Society be called immediately and elections for the post of chairman and vice-chairman be held.
