KARACHI, Oct 14: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has stressed the need to take effective steps for the security of life and property of the people and to ensure smooth day-to-day activities of life.
Speaking at a meeting on law and order here in the Governor’s House on Sunday, he called for stricter action against lawlessness.
The meeting took stock of the obtaining law and order situation in the province and decisions taken for coordinated measures to check car theft, robberies, sectarian terrorism and other heinous offences.
The governor called for associating the Nazims and other elected representatives with efforts for improvement of law and order and for expanding it up to the Mohallah level.
It was made clear in the meeting that there would be freedom of expression on different issues and matters. But attempts to cause damage to the life and property of the people and to cause harm to investment and economic activities would be thwarted with the cooperation of the people.
In this regard, necessary directives were issued to the law-enforcement agencies.
The governor particularly asked the religious leaders to strive for propagating the golden principles of Islam.
VISUALLY HANDICAPPED: Speaking at a function here on Sunday evening in connection with the International White Safety Cane Day, Governor Soomro said the situation through which Pakistan was passing today demanded that every Pakistani played his due role in overcoming the difficulties. The function was organized by the Pakistan Association of the Blind (Sindh) in collaboration with the Citizen Help Line Society.
The governor particularly asked the visually handicapped to pray and work for the country’s unity, development and integrity.
“The situation demands that the whole nation unite and work for the country’s security and stability and such activities be avoided which may deprive the people of unemployment and harm economic progress,” he emphasized.
Mr Soomro said economic problems could be overcome and security provided to every citizen by only pursuing high moral traditions. He assured the visually handicapped of the government’s cooperation for solving their economic and social problems.
The governor announced the revival of the Association’s annual grant, and promised to issue necessary orders for the establishment of their industrial home, implementation of job quota and to meet the requirements of the visually handicapped in examinations.
He declared that henceforth the White Cane Safety Day would be observed on a regular basis.
He called for taking special care of the special people, and said if they were provided necessary facilities, they could become a useful part of society.
The governor appreciated the efforts of the Association’s Chief Patron, Shujaat Ali, and hoped that others would emulate his example in the care for special people.—APP
