RAWALPINDI: The district administration has turned a blind eye to rising chicken prices in the local markets.

According to market sources, farm chicken is being sold at Rs210 per kg whereas its meat is available at Rs320 per kg. The official price of chicken is Rs192 per kg and meat Rs292 per kg.

In Rawalpindi city, the local administration failed to control the prices of chicken as the price magistrates never visit the markets.

“The price of chicken increased as there was a big gap in demand and supply. In last two months, the poultry production was slow and it affected the supply in the market,” said Qazi Zahid Mehmood, a trader at main poultry market at Raja Bazaar.

He said the production was less but the demand had increased during last month when the wedding season was at its peak.
