10 relief centres for cattle

GUJRANWALA, July 11: The livestock department has set up 10 relief centres for the provision of medicines to cattle in flood-affected areas in different parts of the district. This was stated by livestock district officer Dr Ghulam Muhammad here on Monday. He said that veterinary officers and other staff had also been deployed there. The district officer said that these centres were established at Sodara, Wazirabad, Head Khanki, Rasul Nagar, Wahando, Chak Ram Das, Madherwanwal, Kamoki, Gunaur and Naushera Virkan.

In addition, he said that an emergency cell had also been set up at the district office and two mobile teams at Kamoki and Wazirabad tehsils for this purpose.

killed: A pregnant woman was stabbed to death by her relatives over her second marriage and took away her minor daughter here on Monday in Kamoki.

Reports said Shaheen Bibi, who had contracted second marriage with Munir of Talwandi Bhinderan, was present in her house along with her minor daughter when her relatives entered the house. They attacked her with knives and took away Shazia.

The body was removed to Kamoki civil hospital for autopsy.

UREA PRICES: The district administration fixed the prices of urea and other dung and issued a notification to this effect here on Monday.

At a meeting held here with District Coordination Officer Khalid Masood Chaudhry in the chair, the participants, including farmers, gave suggestions regarding the prices of dung.

Later, the DCO fixed the prices of urea dung at Rs505 per bag, DAP Rs1,090, Engro Rs1,108 and Nightfast Force Rs730 per bag.

He warned that dung dealers would be arrested if they were found involved in blackmarketing.

GETS DEATH: A local court on Monday handed down death sentence and fined Rs100,000 to an accused on the charge of killing his brother.

The accused will have to undergo a six-month hard jail if he defaults in the payment of fine.

According to the prosecution, convict Safdar had murdered his brother Muhammad Afzal over an agricultural land dispute at Pero village on Nov 25, 2004.
