SHEIKHUPURA, July 10: The ARD, the MMA and other opposition parties have decided to make electoral adjustments at the union council level and field consensus candidates for the slots of district and tehsil nazims.

In this connection, a joint electoral alliance — Ittehad Group — and a Mushawarati Board, comprising two representatives of each party, have been constituted.

Resorting to adjustments and fielding consensus candidates for the top slots, the group is determined to upstage the PML.

The decisions were taken at a meeting convened and chaired by Chaudhry Altaf Husain Virk, the district president of the ARD and PPP.

In the previous local election in 2001, the opposition parties had made a coalition under the same name. The group’s candidates won the elections for the district nazim and two tehsil nazims’ seats. They, however, joined the ruling PML.
