SIALKOT, July 9: A number of people on Saturday attacked the regional passport office located on Khadim Ali Road against what they said inordinate delay in the issuance of passports to them and the alleged corruption. Reports said scores of applicants staged a demonstration in front of the passport office as a protest against the alleged corruption of two officials namely Ghulam Hassan and Nasir Hundal.

On refusal to register a written complaint against them, the protesters attacked the building with bricks, iron rods, hockey sticks and broke the main gate, outer wall, window grills and some furniture. On this, the officials saved themselves by locking the office. Later, the police controlled the situation.

Talking to the press, the protesters alleged that these two officials demanded bribe for passport and had established a network of their agents. Some of them said that they had deposited applications with urgent fee, but were unable to get passports after a lapse of one month.

Later, the passport officials allegedly misbehaved with the journalists who wanted to get their version.
