THATTA, July 9: A senior police official, Ghulam Nabi alias Babli, who was assigned to detect and expose actual hands behind frequent theft of the costly machinery of the Thatta sugar mills and railway track has been awarded CC-II (certificate of commendation), cash award of Rs500 and good performance certificate by the DIG operation on Thursday. Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had ordered an inquiry into the matter after his adviser Syed Aijaz Shah Shirazi had apprised him of the situation during his recent visit to Thatta.
In pursuance of an FIR registered at the Makli police station under section 379 PPC regarding theft of a major portion of 32 kilometres Jungshahi to the Thatta cement factory railway track and costly machinery of the Thatta sugar mills, head constable Ghulam Nabi was entrusted and deputed in Thatta from his actual place of posting, the DSP of the departmental enquiries and proceedings a month back.
He helped recovery of some 500 maunds of railway track and tools of the Thatta sugar mills followed by arrest of one Talat Mehmood, son of a junk dealer, Gharib Khan, and three others.
The junk dealer managed to secure release of his son by making applications to the higher authorities that he had been wrongfully implicated by HC Ghulam Nabi at the Thatta police station, resulting in his suspension and registration of a case against him under section 155, 156 of the Police Order 2002 (abuse of authority).
RPO Hyderabad conducted an inquiry whose findings suggested action against SHO Thatta police station, Yaqoob Bhatti, head constable Siddique Panhwar and Lance Naik Mohammad Ali for their connivance in the racket.
