HYDERABAD: To mark the World Oral Health Day, a number of students and faculty members of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) institute of dentistry staged a public awareness walk within the premises of the varsity in Jamshoro on Wednesday. They also carried banners and placards while raising slogans for oral health.

LUMHS Vice Chancellor Prof Bikha Ram Devrajani said official theme of the World Oral Health Day 2019 campaign is ‘Say Ahh: Act on Mouth Health’. With this campaign, individuals are called to take tangible action to protect their oral health. The campaign provides an ideal platform to raise awareness and encourage action in favour of good oral health.

LUMHS’ faculty of dentistry dean Prof Dr Feroze Ali Kalhoro said that millions of people around the globe continued to suffer from poor oral health and the growing burden of oral disease demanded action on an individual, family and community level. Poor oral health extended far beyond the mouth, taking a serious toll on an individual’s overall health and well-being.

“We are confident that concerted and targeted action can curb the prevalence of oral disease and make oral health a personal priority for everyone,” he said. The department of community dentistry also arranged an awareness camp at a school in LUMHS Colony to educate students in oral health.
