KARACHI, July 8: The Higher Education Commission has approved the setting up of a monitoring unit at the Governor’s House for supervision of development work being carried out at public sector universities. The unit will undertake 40 visits to nine universities in the province and the IBA this year and would have an appraisal about the situation from other sources as well.

The unit will carry out monitoring of HEC’s and other development works and their quality, take stock of the progress achieved during the time-frame as well as transparency in the utilization of funds.

The performance of various teaching and research sections functioning in these universities and attainment of targets will be watched along with their grading.

The unit will also identify if there would be any shortcoming or bottleneck in the way of progress and given suggestions to overcome the same.

It will keep the governor regularly informed about its activities, monitoring of universities and review of development works so that establishment of a conducive academic environment could be ensured by improving the teaching, research and administrative conditions in the universities.

Governor Ishratul Ibad Khan stressed the need for immediately making the unit functional and to start working with the coordination of universities.

Dr Ibad emphasised upon a coordinated programme for teaching and research in public sector universities and bringing an improvement in their administrative and development activities.

In this regard, he has issued directives for continuous monitoring and initiating necessary steps for ensuring the attainment of desired results.—APP
