LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 7: Authorities in Khyber Agency distributed food and medicines among flood victims in Loe Shalman, some 35 kilometres from here, on Thursday. The goods were sent to the area on the instructions of NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman. Flood waters in the River Kabul have destroyed crops on more than 1,500 acres of land in the villages of Shalman Khowla, Samsai, Ugda, Landa and Sheen Pokh. Five houses have been damaged in two of the five flood-ravaged villages — Sheen Pokh and Samsai.

Dr Fida Wazir, the political agent in Khyber Agency, distributed 8,000 kgs of rice, 4,000 kgs of sugar, 1,000 kgs of wheat, 200 kgs of spices and 1,000 tins of ghee among the affected families. The floods have affected more than 3,000 residents of the area.

Officials also organized a free medical camp in Sheen Pokh village as more than 200 children there were reportedly suffering from diarrhoea.

In response to demands made by the area’s residents, the Khyber Agency political agent said that he would recommend that additional funds be given to the flood-affected people of the area as it lacked many basic amenities.
