GUJRANWALA, July 7: Six policemen, including two ASIs, involved in the escape of the Sialkot jail incident’s main accused, were arrested after rejection of their interim bail by a local court on Thursday. Those arrested were ASI Abdul Jabbar, ASI Rashid Ahmad and constables — Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Aslam, Nisar Ali and Mubasher Ahmed. While Sialkot Civil Lines SHO Muhammad Ilyas is still at large. Later, the police sent the arrested policemen to jail.

Former inspector Zulfikar Ali Virk had escaped from the local ATC No 1 when he was being escorted for hearing from jail some two weeks ago. It was alleged that Civil Lines SHO Muhammad Ilyas and other policemen had provided help in the escape of the former inspector.

DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq had a criminal case registered against the accused policemen. However, the accused policemen had got interim bails from the sessions court.

Promotions: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has promoted 277 employees of scale-16 and below to next grades.

The company has also regularized about 280 employees who have completed their three-year service satisfactorily.

This was stated by Gepco Chief-Executive Brig Saifullah Khalid while speaking at a joint works council meeting here on Thursday.

He assured the employees that their genuine problems would be solved, besides provision of better facilities on good performance.

Meanwhile, Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union Secretary-General Khurshed Ahmad thanked the company chief for promotions.
