VEHARI: Five people, including a couple and a minor girl, died and 10 others injured in a traffic accident on Multan Road in Tibba Sultanpur police jurisdiction, some 50km from here, on Saturday.

As per the police, a Burewala-bound bus coming from Multan, collided with a car and a van near Chak 118-WB, Tibba Sultanpur. As a result, two of the car occupants -- Aziz Bibi, 30, and her husband Liaquat Ali, 40 -- died on the spot, while three others, Fauzia Bibi, 25, Safdar Ali, 35, and 10-year-old Tayyba, died on way to hospital.

The injured included Talha, Shahid, Asif, Amir Ali, Umair Ali and others.

According to Rescue 1122 media coordinator Azeem Jutt, all the injured were admitted to Tibba Sultanpur rural health centre, from where three were referred to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, while as many others to the Vehari District Headquarters Hospital.

Tibba police in charge Inspector Zubair Lodhi said the car occupants were going to Multan to attend a wedding, adding the accident occurred because of speeding.

He said a case had been registered against the bus driver, while the bodies were handed over to the victims’ families after an autopsy conducted at the DHQ Hospital.
