PESHAWAR: Special judge anti-corruption on Friday convicted a food grain inspector Sher Ali Khan of misappropriation of huge quantity of wheat from storage facilities in Chitral, and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs1.5 million.

Judge Ikhtiar Khan pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Sher Ali Khan, and the evidence on record connected him with the commission of the offence.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Anti Corruption Establishment had registered an FIR against the accused on April 2, 2018, after which he was arrested. His bail petition was also dismissed by the special court as well as the Peshawar High Court.

Senior public prosecutor Khalid Khan appeared for ACE and contended that the accused was posted in Chitral from 2011 to 2016 and he was also in-charge of three storages of the department situated in faraway areas of Baroghil, Yarkhun and Torkhow.

He contended that when the accused was transferred it was found that 13,786 bags of wheat worth Rs46.4 million were missing from the three storages. He argued that the accused could not provide any justification for the missing bags.
