MIRPURKHAS, July 4: Villagers Gul Mohammad and Ghulam Haider, of the Nizamuddin village, deh 381, Mirpurkhas taluka, have accused one Mohammad Ali of issuing threats of implicating them in false cases of kidnapping although he (Mohammad Ali) was involved in a theft case, lodged by Gul Muhammad with the taluka police on June 28.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, they said that Mohammad Ali was involved in a theft case along with Atta Hussain, Zulfikar and Mushtaque Hussain, who had allegedly stolen gold ornaments of thousands of rupees and household articles for which a case was lodged with the Taluka police.

They said that Mohammad Ali was now pressurising the in-charge of investigation of the Taluka police, Khamiso Khan, to dispose of the case.

They alleged that he was involved in illegal activity and had influenced police officers.

They requested the Sindh chief minister and the governor, and the PPO of Sindh to take action against accused in the theft case and provide them protection.: Students to get free books

HYDERABAD, July 4: The provincial secretary of Education and Literacy, Mr Mohammad Hashim Leghari, has said that the Sindh government has allocated funds in the financial budget 2005-06 for distribution of free text books to the students from class-VI to class-X.

He, however, clarified that these books were meant for the educational year 2006-07. He said this during his visit to Sindh Text Book Board Jamshoro, on Saturday.

He said, in Punjab also the same timetable has been adopted in this respect.

The chairman of the board, professor Aziz Mehranvi briefed the education secretary about the overall performance of the board.

He said that all out efforts were being made to improve the quality of the text books being printed by the board. The secretary inspected various sections of the board.
