KARACHI:: United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and former softball player Feryal Ali Gauhar has become the ambassador of Pakistan softball.

Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP) president Haider Khan Lehri says Feryal’s acceptance to become the ambassador of softball in Pakistan will further help in promoting and popularizing the game in the country.

SFP chairperson Tehmina Asif, renowned sports patron Sabiha Essa and Essa Laboratories CEO Farhan Essa recently met Feryal and requested her to become the sport’s ambassador. Feryal accepted SFP official’s request and added that she has been successful only because of Pakistan, which is her identity.

“If it’s through sports, my country receives recognition due to me then I will be proud of that. Becoming ambassador for Pakistan softball will be an honor for me,” Feryal said.

She said that she had played softball back in her school days and abroad as well. She added that she had captained her school – Lahore American School for four years while she remained best player in South Asia out of six international schools.

She further added that she was happy to know that young girls of the country have been taking keen interest in the sport. “I wish that women, like in other sports, win laurels for the country and portray soft image of Pakistan in the game of softball as well at the international arena.”

Feryal further said that she would do her best and use her capabilities to justify the responsibility she has now been given.
