LHC grants 14-day extension to Hamza Shahbaz for London stay

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday gave PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz permission to extend his stay in London by 14 days.

Hamza is facing a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation into Ramzan Sugar Mills and holding assets beyond his known sources of income. He flew to London in the first week of February after the court ordered the removal of his name from the Exit Control List and granted him conditional permission to travel abroad for 10 days.

Lawyer Azam Nazeer Tarar filed Hamza's petition today on behalf of the PML-N leader.

Hamza, in his petition, appealed to the court to allow him to stay on in London for two more weeks with his newborn daughter, who is to undergo a cardiac procedure due to complications at birth.

He will return as soon as she recovers, the petition stated.

Doctors have advised Shahbaz and his wife that their child must undergo the life-saving surgery, a PML-N member quoted in an earlier Dawn report said.

They always find excuses not to return. If it’s not the wife, brother, sister, father or mother now it’s the children for which their reason is for not returning. I think we should start getting strict with these corrupt politicians and others. No more mercy. His brother Salman , brother in law, Isaq Dar are still hiding in London and now this excuse.

Suddenly, these compulsive liars either become sick or take advantage of the law, as they believe they are from another planet. We have to change this mindset of Sharif and Zardari families, otherwise, nation will not become self sufficient, fully sovereign and poorer will become well below the poverty line. If the courts allow this, they should ask for the full independent medical records to be provided by the hospital where his daughter is being treated... Also the court should make it clear that further extensions and delays will not be allowed.

The reason and duration seems sound, but the practice of getting extensions, knowing you might stay for longer isn't a good one. Instead of getting and extension later, it would have been to file for 28 or 30 days in the first place.
