Haripur July 2: District Coordination Committee of the Aurat Foundation has vowed to motivate women voters and intending candidates to participate in the forthcoming coming local government elections. This consensus was reached at a meeting of the DCC which met here the other day. The AF’s divisional coordinator Mumtaz Appa briefed the participants about the areas the foundation would focus on during the coming phase of LB polls and told them that efforts would be made to motivate women voters and prospective women candidates to maximize their participation in the election process.

She said that since the AF believed in political empowerment of women it would utilize its available resources to get to the objectives. She said that motivational written stuff would soon be delivered to the coordination committee for its onward distribution at union council level while training of trainers (ToT) programme would soon be launched at divisional level.

She also sought help of local media, lawyers and civil society for achieving this goal.

During the meeting the representatives from local media organizations, chamber of commerce, district bar association and civil society organizations unanimously agreed to arrange corner meetings and union council-level seminars for mobilizing women voters and candidates to ensure their full participation.

They also developed consensus on setting up election camps near the district courts to facilitate women candidates in filing their nomination papers.

Akhtar Jalil, Usman Shah Sherazi and Mohammad Sadaqat from Human Development Organization, Sadia from Family Planning Association, Tehsin Ul Haq Awan from Haripur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Raja Yasir Ayaz Kiani advocate from district bar Haripur and local journalist Ishfaq Malik attended the meeting.
