GUJRANWALA, July 2: The monsoon rain benefited the paddy cultivators in the district by providing necessary water to the fields, saving costs of diesel and electricity for them. This was stated by district agriculture officer Shaukat Ali, who was speaking on Saturday at a meeting attended by department officers and representatives of paddy growers.
He said during the last two days, 12 millimetre rain was recorded in Gujranwala, while 26 millimetre in Kamoki and Wazirabad tehsils, which would be good for paddy cultivation in these areas.
He pointed out that 30 per cent paddy seed had been cultivated in the district, where the target of paddy growing was fixed at 60,000 acres. He expected that the target would be achieved easily.
KIDNAPPED: An industrialist was kidnapped by his rivals over a money dispute in Dhulley.
Reports said that Ali Munir was allegedly abducted at gunpoint from his factory office by one Mukhtar and his accomplices. The kidnappers took him away to some unknown place where they manhandled him.
Police, on being informed, recovered Munir from the possession of accused and registered a case.
