LAKKI MARWAT: Police claimed to have arrested a wanted terrorist during a raid in Bargai locality here on Wednesday.

“District police officer Asif Gohar had formed a special raiding party when he received information that a wanted terrorist had come to the area with an intention of carrying out subversive act,” said an official.

He said the raiding party headed by DSP Shafiq and assisted by commandos of Elite Force raided the hideout of miscreant identified as Gul Nawer in remote Bargai locality.

“The law enforcers captured the wanted man and seized an assault rifle and bullets from him,” he maintained, adding Gul Nawer was wanted by police in murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and terrorism cases, and possessing arms, ammunition and explosives.

Meanwhile, police have booked three persons for killing a man and wounding another in a firing attack in Naurang town on Tuesday. On the complaint of deceased’s brother, Akhya Jan, police said, they registered a case against Sadiq, Rashid and Sher Nawaz under relevant sections of law for killing Salim and injuring Rafiullah.

WALK: The elementary and secondary education department with the support of district boy scouts association held an awareness walk against narcotics use in Lakki city on Wednesday. Students, boy scouts and teachers participated in the event.

District education officer Bakhtullah Shah, who is also district scout commissioner, had directed the heads of public sector schools to hold awareness walks, seminars and display banners to sensitise students and teachers to the harmful effects of drugs on human health.

The participants carried banners and placards inscribed with messages highlighting the bad impact of narcotics.

On the occasion, the speakers said eradicating the menace of narcotics was their national, moral and religious duty. They said that students and youths could save their health and future by keeping themselves away from drugs.

They said the teachers and students should play their effective role to ensure drug-free society.
