US urged to stop rights violations

LAHORE, Jan 11: The Jamaat-i-Islami has asked the US and its coalition partners to stop human rights violations in the name of eliminating terrorism.

A resolution passed by the Jamaat Majlis-i-Shoora urged the US to also treat citizens of other countries as human beings and show some respect for the UN Charter of Human Rights.

The resolution called for an impartial and fair investigation into the killings and human rights violations perpetrated in Afghanistan. It said the American, British and Northern Alliance troops found involved in war crimes be brought to justice. The families of the prisoners must be rehabilitated, it added.

The resolution also urged the Pakistan government to raise its voice against violations of human rights being perpetrated in Palestine, Kashmir and other parts of the world. The Jamaat warned the government against crushing freedom movement in the Indian occupied Kashmir, calling for extending full-fledged moral, political and diplomatic support to those fighting for their liberation from the clutches of India. It said the Indians should be forced to stop brutalities in Kashmir for ensuring lasting peace in South Asia.

The resolution said an international body needed to be established to define terrorism and devise a code of ethics. It said the UN, the Islamic Summit and other global institutions must play their role to stop the US and its Western allies as well as Israel and India from violating human rights.

Another resolution called for the immediate release of all political and religious leaders and workers and harness the police functionaries committing excesses against the imprisoned.

Through another resolution, the Jamaat condemned the atrocities being committed by the Israeli troops against Palestinians. It expressed grave concern over the silence of the Muslim world against the Israeli atrocities. It also denounced eviction of Palestinians from their territory to settle Jews there.
