MELBOURNE: Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq and Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico suffered first-round elimination prematurely on day one of the men’s doubles competition at the Australian Open on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old Aisam and Gonzalez, 35, who were unseeded, were trailing 3-6, 1-4 on Court No.10 against the 12th seed duo of Henri Kontinen of Finland and Australia’s John Peers when their round-of-64 match to an end as Aisam and Gonzalez opted to throw in the towel.
