PESHAWAR, June 28: Federal Interior Minister and President of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has said the PPP will fully participate in the upcoming local bodies polls and directed the party office-bearers to expedite launch a mass contact drive in the province. He was addressing a joint meeting of the parliamentary party and provincial office-bearers at the Peoples’ House here on Tuesday.

He said that he hoped that the party would win more seats in the ensuing local bodies’ elections to serve the masses in a befitting manner.

Party MPAs and office-bearers urged the prime minister to hold a meeting with PPP MPAs and provincial office bearers so that they could tell him about the injustices being meted out to the opposition in the NWFP by the MMA government.

They also asked the heads of coalition parties to evolve a strategy for strengthening the working relationship between the allies and redress their grievances.

It was decided in the meeting to form committees at the district level all over the province for evolving a strategy for the local bodies’ polls. The district organizations of the party were authorized to make adjustments with other parties during the local elections. It was also decided to hold workers conventions in each district.

The meeting unanimously decided that the party would contest the local bodies’ election under the name of the Taraqi Passand Group.

The meeting adopted a resolution wherein the participants expressed sympathies with the flood-affected people and resolved to provide all possible relief for them.

The meeting also reposed full confidence in the leadership of Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao and Pervaiz Khan Khattak.
